From 25 October 2023, Beaucatcher presents a new exhibition from staff member Amina Hunte, who says about her work, Unveiling the Fearless Femininity:
This series of painted portraits pays homage to the essence of bold, fearless, fierce women. The images are sourced from the pages of fashion magazines Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
I started in 2020, off the back of me feeling like a shell of myself, dealing with the pressure of the pandemic like the rest of the world.
I found strength in these photos and uncovered their attributes in this work. The strength I was longing to embody and was frustrated at myself for not having at the time I saw in these images. I wanted their power and boldness.
With this work I channelled all my feelings in to these paintings and I would like to invite you to recognise the myriad forms of power that reside within you.
I was drawn to these images because of the women’s poses that scream out to me: You can’t move me. They are looking you straight in the eye and facing you dead on as if to say: Try Me
Medium: acrylic paint and oil paint
